What is a Northern Pike?

Northern pike are most often olive, shading into yellow to white along the belly. The flank is marked with short, light barlike spots and there are a few to many dark spots on the fins. The lower half of the gill cover lacks scales and they have large sensory pores on their head and on the underside of the lower jaw which are part of the lateral line system. Unlike the similar-looking and closely related muskellunge, the northern pike has light markings on a dark body background and fewer than six sensory pores on the underside of each side of the lower jaw.

Pike is my absolute favorite fish to catch!! I agree that there is nothing better than feeling that tug on your line and feeling the line rip off your reel so fast you can hardly believe a fish is that fast and strong!! Okay...the only thing that might be better...is when you are top water fishing and you actually see that MONSTER Pike leap out of the water and take your lure. That is pretty amazing and one of the greatest things about the fiesty Northern Pike.

Anyone ever try using the bull dawg lures for pike? I just picked one up to try this summer, just wondering of anyone has used them to catch pike?

I dont fish for pike but while I am fishing for muskies I catch them on a regular basis, I have had luck on live bait (shiners, suckers and bluegills) I have also noticed that any crankbait that has rattles really gets the pike excited.

Made a trip to Ontario over the summer for a week and had fun with the big boys. Largest was 38" but in 2 years, the goal is a big 40. Any tips for the big boys?
