El Carpon was to advertise a friends tackle shop of that name. He has since sold the shop to some Spanish guys. Most waters here only hold a few, if any mirrors, if you can find a water with a lot of mirrors then they usually are big ones.

It defintely doesn't taste nearly as good as salmon or walleye, even catfish for that matter. All of those are very good, however I have had carp many times and the only part of it that I have grown to like is the ribs. Not tons of meat but if its cooked right and is caught in the right spot, it can taste pretty good!

Great Pictures, I love the scale patterns on the mirror carp. However, My occupation is to help build and protect fisheries, just because I bowfish for carp does not mean I don't have a passion for the fish. Its a rapidly growing sport, and everything I harvest does not go to waste. I always eat what I shoot, regardless. Best of luck to you and your wife. Keep adding great photos!

Ha ha, ice fishing is not that bad as long as you are dressed in an a super good suit! and its really quite fun and i love to challenge myself. it is also really rewarding, fish from cold water just taste better(remember when we used to eat cod!) The summer in canada has pretty high average temps (its above 25 for pretty much 4 months!) i also like the different species here. we got walleye(my favorite eaters), huge pike, musky, some crazy panfish (sunfish, crappies etc) lots of lake trout(my favorite ice fishing quarry) and of course bass, my new favorite to fish for. i see you went after the tarpon, that in north america? if you ever come over make sure to try bass fishing it really is a blast! i'm not suprised you moved to spain, i love the whole med too, and the u.k seems to be dying a slow death, too many people, not enough space! (esspecially the fishing!). i have been to places in canada not that far from civilisation that get NO fishing pressure at all, now thats a country worth exploring!

welcome fellow country man, nice to see you here! i have lived in canada for 2 yrs now, the fishing is truley the best, and carp are considered garbage fish, almost nobody here will fish for them, they are totally unspooked and real easy to catch, i banked 19 fish up to 28lb in 5hrs using a corn and a lift up waggler! awsome pics by the way, much impressed by those spanish cats, and lovely to see a tench! (tench could be my favorite fish, i was in the anglers mail aged 10 with a 7lb 4oz beast caught in devon!)
