As for the taste of fish, fish always taste better coming out of clean water. Bass are not high on my list, but I do keep some out of a family lake to keep the numbers down. I prefer to eat walleye and pike, but crappie, and other panfish are good...

About Me
Love most types of fishing and am willing to share time, knowledge, and equipment with others. Have an 1890 Lund and looking to figure out a way for anglers to connect up with each other on trips to cut down the cost of fuel and having to haul boats or fifth-wheels around the country with these high gas prices. In 2009 I want to expand beyond trout and salmon fishing. Just added a 15' flat bottom to the cast--hope this gives me more flexibility.
How many times a year do you go fishing?
20-50
What type of fishing do you primarily do?
Freshwater
What type of fish do you normally go for?
trout, salmon, walleye, bass, perch, bluegill, catfish, plus the ocean species of tuna and halibut

Catch & Release of Fish Pro's/Con's and In Between; When to and When Not to.

i release most large brown trout and steelhead in michigan--browns over 4 lbs and steelhead over 6 lbs; i do make exceptions because if a youngster catches a nice one i give them the choice as to what they want to do with the fish; if the fish is injured we assess what to do; if i catch a state record fish i would keep it at this point, but that is open to change too; the last time i kept a bass was when i was a teenager--really never liked the taste of them; it's not always true that you are wh… Continue

Hey Paul! Thanks for the message. It sounds like things might start to light up around there soon. I have also decided to live in MI this summer and take some summer courses at Calvin. I will be in class every day from 8:30 in the morning until just before lunch so hopefully we will be able to make some fishing happen this summer. I have been spending a lot of time up at Spring Lake lately as well. My girlfriend's grandma has a cottage right on the lake so we have been going up there every once in a while. She will be spending a lot of time there this summer, and i will hopefully be able to join her quite a bit as well. I will certainly be around if we want to try to get our lines wet after i finish up the chaos of spring semester! I hope you are doing well! Do you still have my telephone number. I believe i have yours if it hasn't changed. Talk to you soon!

Paul! I AM still alive! hehe I am so sorry, I got so busy with school last semester, and it wasn't a very good semester. I had lots of hard classes, and wasn't doing very well. I kind of forgot about coming on here just cause i needed to spend the time on homework. I am sorry. How have you been doing? How is your winter going? Do you do any ice fishing? I hope everything is going well. I apologize for my absence!

Hi Paul,

Good to hear from you. I would be honored to assist you in promoting female participation. I am pretty new to all this "fishing" stuff so I'm not sure what I can do to help. Mark and I have some great pictures of me fishing the pristine lakes of the Keewanaw Pennisula. I caught my first walleye and a few really big bass. I never realized how much fun fishing can be! I also helped him pre-fish the Mississippi and Saint Croix rivers for the last P.W.T. Would some good pictures be of some help? I have the pictures on a C.D. I think I may be able to download them onto Marks computer (if he still has them in his camera) and send them via email. Or, I could send you the C.D. and let you take your pick. Let me know how I can help.

Hi Paul. How's it going?
Nice to see the sunshine.
I think I'll get the boat out tomorrow and take my little girl fishing. It has to be somewhere close. Not really sure where would be best or for what.
Where would you go? What would you do?

Hi Paul,

Okay, I joined. Now what? Ha, ha. I just started fishing with Mark Martin. He's taught me how to set up a fishing pole (the basics) and we spent hours casting. I've learned that fishing is not as easy as it looks. Last weekend, we walked the Big Sauble River (I have a cabin on the river and 30 acres of hunting property in Freesoil). I caught my first brown trout. It was only 10" but as exciting as a huge one to me! We also went walleye fishing on Silver Lake and I learned all about using planer boards. Just the ride in his boat was an experience I'll never forget. I will keep you informed of my progress. Nice talking with you and I hope to get to know you better in the future. Joni Mattson

Paul, How have you been? I hope your summer has been going really well. I cant wait to return to MI, I have been working 60 hours a week, and haven't even been able to breathe lately. I will be returning on Sept 5. I hope that is not too late to get on some fish. It has been a rough summer for me fishing wise. However, i did get to go to the boundary waters of MN and Canada to go canoeing and fishing for a week. Caught a lot of good fish, it was really a blast. I hope your summer has been filled with lots of good catches, and I look forward to finally being able to go out with you when I get back.
