Local ponds are usually private and underfished. More catch & release is taking
place to keep breeders in the pond. Fish don't swim off their weight hunting

If you need a "bite alert" on your reel...you're not using the right equipment.
A sensitive reel, rod, and line is sufficient to know when you have a bite..
...unless you're just sitting and using a bobber?
For all the Bass fishermen out there...you can fish for other things, but the sweet sound of bass blowin up on the surface after the solid thump of a strike...nothing else like it!

In NE PA..bass season doesn't start until June. I live near a trout-stocked lake (ruins the bass fishing) and I really can't even go near it with my bass gear until mid-May..and need a trout stamp to dip a line. (Pickerel come in in mid-May) Prefer spinner baits with triple tails. Chartreuse in spring-white in summer-black at night. love a full moon. Go to Berkeley power worms in the doldrums of August. They're the only worm I've ever seen a bass actually swallow. Some time use jigs then too...but not much action on them.
I have a terrible time with crank baits (too many hooks in me) though some
really work well. Large mouth in private ponds...small mouth in the river and a few lakes.
I desperately need to get back to fishing, but I also have been disabled and unable to do much.
